Your tour manager from Nature Horizons Tours will pick you up from your hotel for Alexandria Day Tour. First visit Pompey’s Pillar. It was constructed in honor of the Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century. Originally from the temple of the Serapis, it was once a magnificent structure rivaling the Soma and the Cesarean. Then you drive to visit the Catacombs which are the largest Roman Cemetery consisting of three levels cut in the rock. Lunch at local restaurant in Alexandria, and then we proceed to see the Qaitbay Citadel which was built on the site of the ancient pharaohs ( Light House ) of Alexandria then to Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Finally you will drive back to your hotel in Alexandria.

Drive to Wadi El-Natrun, the birthplace for Christian monasticism. Visit the 4 surviving monasteries of the 50 that once existed here. Begin your trip with the oldest and most isolated monastery, Deir al-Baramus, and learn of the Desert Fathers of Christian monasticism.

Itinerary:

Drive by a modern air-conditioned vehicle to Wadi El-Natrun, the actual birthplace for Christian monasticism. Basically, there were about 50 monasteries; only 4 have survived into modern times. Begin your trip with Deir al-Baramus which is the oldest of the surviving 4 monasteries and in many ways the most isolated, then proceeds to Deir Anba Bishoiwhose body is still in the monastery. End your trip visiting Deir El-Suryani which is the smallest and most compact of the 4 monasteries.

A fascinating insight into the location where the ‘Rosetta Stone’ was discovered, and to this day, is still a mystery as to how it got there. A small City known as ‘Rashid’ in the north of Egypt and at the mouth which connects the tip of the River Nile to the Mediterranean Sea.

Itinerary:

You will be collected from your Hotel or cruise ship (at exit point of cruise) at around 08.00 am by our Nature Horizons Tours expert English speaking Tour Guide and transferred in an air conditioned modern vehicle (including bottled water) and driven about 1 hour by road from Alexandria to the City of Rosetta, now known as Rashid. On arrival, you will be taken to the Rashid Museum which is one of the original unique styled red and black brick houses within the City’s small winding streets. A full tour of the Museum with your Guide to discover a replica of the Rosetta Stone inscribed in 3 languages, Ancient Pharaonic, Demotic, and Ancient Greek (the original currently on display in the British Museum). From here, we will take a walking tour around the small local streets and Souq to discover the local life and markets selling their fresh produce of breads, fruit and vegetables, fish and meats whilst heading to the preserved Ottoman Homes.
Moving on to discover a second House within the City’s streets and other old house frontages. The House of Amasyali is of a very ornate nature and considered one of the finer examples.
A further visit to the Mill of Abu Shaheen which will uncover a house for trade serving the household and the local community.
After your tour of the Houses, you will walk a short distance with your Guide to visit the local ‘Hanging Mosque’, a unique construction and is one of only a few Mosques in Egypt built on an upper level in order to have storage units underneath for shops and supplies.
Finally, you will take a short drive to the Citadel on the outskirts of the City. built around 1479 and lying next to the Nile river with views of the Mediterranean sea. Known as Qaitbey, it was built as a defence mechanism to guard against attacks by invaders from the Mediterranean. Take some time to climb to the top of the Citadel along the fortified walls to see the lovely views of where the NIle meets the Mediterranean.
You will then leave the Citadel and head back towards Alexandria with a stop off for lunch and time to relax before returning to your Cruise or Hotel in Alexandria.

Travel west along the coast to the site of one of the most significant battles in World War II, Alamein. Visit the memorials to the fallen soldiers of all nationalities.

Itinerary:

Nature Horizons Tours representative will pick you up from hotel in Alexandria to Alamein. Then transfer to the Military Museum including displays of weapons, military garb and tanks. Descriptions of the actions of Montgomery, Rommel and the others participated in the battle are also on display.

Lunch break then continue to visit the WW II Cemeteries, located on the west of the town, on a small peninsula overlooking the sea. The citadel like cemeteries is the final resting place for Common wealth, Greek, Italian and German soldiers. Drive back to hotel.

At the early morning you will be picked up by Nature Horizons Tours representative from your hotel in Alexandria, and then transferred to Cairo where you will be met and transferred to discover The Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus. Then proceed to visit the Great Sphinx, the head of a pharaoh with a lion’s body, which dates from the time of Chephren; the tour also includes a visit to the Valley Temple, which belongs to the Pyramids of Chephren.

Proceed to have your lunch at local restaurant in Cairo. Then you will move on to relish a trip to the Egyptian Museum which features artifacts from the Pharaonic period. The museum displays a rare collection of 5000 years of art which is considered the largest most precious collection of Egyptian art in the world. Over 250,000 genuine artifacts are presented, including an exhibit dedicated to Tutankhamen collection of treasure, gold and jewelry which was enclosed in his tomb for over 3,500 years before it was discovered in the 1920 when his tomb was excavated. Move onto Coptic Cairo for a background about the Christian and Jewish heritage through the Hanging Church and Ben Ezra Synagogue. Continue driving to Islamic Cairo, where you will be able to explore Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s old bazaar. Finally you will be transferred to Alexandria back to your hotel.

Day 1: Alamein & Old city of Siwa

Once in the car, your guide will talk to you about all the things on the way as well as other aspects of your tour that will interest you.Start your tour by driving to Alamein, stop at Al Alamein, you will enjoy the site of a great battle during WW II, then stop. Then drive on to the beautiful bay of Marsa Matrouh lunch there on the Mediterranean Coast and continue to Siwa. It is about 05 hours driving from Alamein to Siwa. When u arrive visit to the Old City of Siwa ( Shaly) Dinner with Bedouin people. Overnight in Siwa Paradise Hotel (or similar).

Day 2: Dead Mountain, Temple of Alexander & Safari by 4×4

Breakfast at hotel. Visit the Dead Mountain ( Gabel El Mouta ) where you can see man tombs like SI Amon, MSW Isis, Crocodile Tombs, then visit Gara cave, a natural hollow formed by rain in the Eocene limestone (55 million years ago). Prehistoric people lived in the cave probably during late Neolithic period as evidenced by artifacts and rock art found in the cave. Visit the Temple of Alexander the Great, Cleopatra bath, lunch then safari by 4×4 then drive back to Alexandria.
