The scenic route of Annapurna Base Camp trek promises spectacular views of the mountains, a close insight into the culture and food of the ethnic groups living in the area, especially the Gurungs in the village of Ghandruk. The route is perfect for first-time trekkers as it is pleasant, scenic, and lined with tea houses. One of the most popular trekking routes in Nepal, the Annapurna Base Camp trek also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary trek is on the bucket list of adventurers. Lying to the north of Pokhara, the famed lake side city, and home to the Annapurna Base Camp, Annapurna Sanctuary reflects like its namesake the glacial basin home to stunning mountains, diverse topography and biodiversity in the Himalayas.

The ABC trek follows the Modi Khola Valley, or Modi River Valley up to the foothills of Annapurna. Along the route, spectacular views of mountains such as Mt. Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7555m), Mt. Gangapurna (7454m), and Machhapuchhare or Fish tail (6997m). With its many tea houses and lodges, ABC is a comparatively easy route and can be undertaken by first time trekkers. Part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, the ABC route takes you through lush green forests of rhododendrons. Keep a lookout for birds such as the pheasants, langurs along the way. The route also passes through Gurung and Magar Villages.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

At your arrival time at the airport in Kathmandu, a nature horizons team member will be waiting to greet you. We will transfer right to your hotel accommodation for the first night. Once you arrive at the hotel, you will meet your guide and get a briefing on your entire tour. The rest of the day is yours to relax and explore around Kathmandu. It is a magical city.

Day 2: Trek preparation day

Today you will have a 2nd briefing about the trek during breakfast. We will do a complete gear check to ensure you have brought with you all the necessary equipment and gear for your trek. If there are any items you are missing and need, we will head out into Kathmandu to buy them, so you are prepared for your trek. It is now time to relax, and your trek starts tomorrow.

Day 3: Fly to Pokhara and drive to Banthanti (2200m)

We will take an early flight to Pokhara. You can enjoy the scenic mountain view if the weather is clear. As we land in Pokhara we will drive to Banthanti in our jeep. Overnight at Banthanti.

Day 4: Trek to Ghorepani (2870m)

The route passes through dense forest covers. We will be walking at a slower pace, compared to yesterday’s grueling hike. Do keep a lookout for wildlife. During Spring, the route is decked with beautiful rhododendrons.

Day 5: Hike to Poonhill and trek to Tadapani(2610m)

Head outside in the early hours before dawn. Bracing the cold wind and walking past the rhododendron forest, we reach Poon Hill, an hour’s walk away from Ghorepani. Revel in the beautiful view of the stunning sunrise cloaking the peaks of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, Baraha Shikhar, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Machapuchare, and many more. Spend some time watching the sunrise and head back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we’ll head towards Tadapani. Passing through dense forest and scenic views of the mountains and paddy fields, we make our way towards Tadapani.

Day 6: Trek to Chomrong (2150m)

Starting early after breakfast, we will be walking past dense forest areas. The route descends down to the river and then ascends again. The last leg before we reach Chomrong consists of steep stairs. After checking into the lodge, feel free to explore the market at Chomrong. The bustling trekking village also boasts of bakeries that sell brownies and apple tarts.

Day 7: Trek to Bamboo (2310m)

After Chomorong, the route is lined with forest cover until bamboo, the next point on the route. While you enjoy the view of Mount Fishtail and Annapurna ranges, do keep a lookout for the lophophorus (Nepali National Bird), blue sheep, and deer.

Day 8: Trek to Deurali (3230 m)

Today’s trail includes a steep uphill path to Deurali. You’ll notice a marked difference in the vegetation as you head higher, with lush green forest giving way to alpine covers. If you’re lucky, you might get to see groups of Langurs huddled together, busy basking in the sun or foraging for food.

Day 9: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m)

En route to Annapurna Base Camp, we will stop at Machhapuchhre Base Camp for lunch. Throughout the way, enjoy magnificent views of Annapurna Range, Hiuchuli and Fish Tail. The night sky and the view surrounded by the Annapurna range on all sides are simply awe-inspiring.

Day 10: ABC to Bamboo

You will have to wake up early to watch the sunrise. The awe-inspiring view of the sun slowly cloaking the mountains with its rays until they stand glistening amidst the clouds is spectacular. After breakfast, we trace our way downwards to Bamboo again and stay overnight at Sinuwa.

Day 11: Bamboo to Jhinu (1760m)

After a late breakfast, we descend towards Jhinu, which is famed for its hot springs. The route is fairly short, and we should reach Jhinu by lunchtime. Settle down in your lodge and head out to the hot springs.

Day 12: Jhinu to Siwai and dive to Pokhara

Tracing our route back from Jhinu, we head toward Siwai. We’ll reach Siwai by afternoon, and a jeep will drive us back to Pokhara. At Pokhara, feel free to spend the rest of your day at leisure.

Day 13: Fly to Kathmandu

After spending some time relaxing at the lakeside of Pokhara we will take a late flight back to Kathmandu. Spend your last minutes doing some souvenir shopping.

Wake up and prepare to get on your flight home! Your guide will be with you up until we drop you off at the airport. End Tour
