Overview
Neighbouring Colombia and Peru, Ecuador is a relatively small country that nevertheless offers an enticing array of scenic landscapes, diverse wildlife species and interesting cities. Dense Amazon rainforest, towering Andean mountain peaks, palm-fringed Pacific Coast beaches and fascinating historical sites are all part and parcel of Ecuador’s prolific charms. The former Inca town of Cuenca is the nation’s third-largest city and a Unesco World Heritage Site. This alluring city, with its cobbled streets, beautiful architecture and photogenic plazas, boasts a huge variety of museums and art galleries. The vibrant capital city of Quito is also worth a visit. Arguably the most dazzling jewel in Ecuador’s crown is the Galapagos Archipelago in the Pacific, about 1000 kilometres west of the mainland. Their magnificent, pristine landscapes and prolific wildlife, which inspired Charles Darwin, have made this cluster of islands a world-famous travel destination.

Day 1: Quito
Once you land in the lively city of Quito, our designated driver will be there to greet you. He will be holding a sign with your name for easy recognition. He will then escort you to your hotel, where you can relax and get settled.
Day 2: Quito
Pick Up: 9:00 am from your hotel’s lobby.
Your journey begins with a hotel pick-up by your guide. Then, you’ll set off to explore one of Latin America’s most enchanting cities: Quito. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, Quito captivates with its stunning colonial district and friendly inhabitants. You’ll be taken to some of the city’s most extraordinary locations.
Our first stop is Independence Square, Plaza de La Independencia. This vibrant square is flanked by key governmental buildings—the Archbishop’s Palace, the Presidential Palace, and the Cathedral—making it Ecuador’s cultural epicenter.
Next, we’ll visit the Church of La Compania de Jesus, a remarkable Jesuit temple widely considered one of Latin America’s most impressive. This baroque-style masterpiece showcases the continent’s finest artistry, adorned with intricate ornamentation from floor to ceiling. Its main altar and extensive use of gold leaf throughout will leave you spellbound.
Our exploration of the colonial district continues with a visit to San Francisco Square, once the city’s commercial hub. Today, it’s a serene spot for soaking up the colonial grandeur of Quito, nestled amidst a stunning backdrop of mountains and volcanoes. Here, you’ll find the Church and Monastery of San Francisco—one of Latin America’s oldest Catholic establishments.
Our tour then takes us to a site known by many names. First called “Yavirac” by Quito’s original inhabitants, it was later christened “Panecillo” by the Spaniards, who likened its perfect shape to a small bread roll. Atop this hill, a replica of famous sculptor Bernardo Legarda’s Virgin watches over the city from her lofty perch.
We’ll pause for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing our journey to the “Mitad del Mundo,” or the Middle of the World. This monument commemorates the 18th-century French geodesic mission pinpointing where the equatorial line divides the northern and southern hemispheres. It’s a unique opportunity to straddle both hemispheres simultaneously—perfect for a memorable selfie.
Our visit to Mitad del Mundo city includes a stop at the Intiñan Museum, where you’ll delve into Ecuador’s indigenous culture and partake in unique experiments only possible at latitude 0°. The day concludes with a leisurely drive back to your hotel, rich with memories of a captivating day in Quito.
Day 3: Quilotoa Loop
Pick Up: 7:00 a.m. from your hotel’s lobby.
Today, prepare for a mesmerizing journey to one of Ecuador’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders – Quilotoa. This breathtaking site, once a towering volcano, underwent a catastrophic eruption approximately 800 years ago. This seismic event ripped the mountain’s peak off, leaving behind a massive caldera. Over centuries, this gaping hole filled with water, transforming into an enchanting lake nestled within the steep walls of the erstwhile volcanic pipe.
Before leaving Quito, we’ll go to the rental bike office.
Our journey to this magnificent crater lake takes us through the quaint indigenous towns of Zumbahua and Tigua. These charming hamlets, seemingly frozen in time, are characterized by tiny, picturesque houses adorned with vibrant local art. On certain days, you’ll witness bustling markets where locals gather to trade various goods. Here, the age-old practice of bartering is still thriving, offering you a unique glimpse into their traditional way of life.
As we continue our journey towards the crater, the anticipation builds. Upon arrival at the rim, the view that greets you is spectacular. The azure-blue lake, surrounded by the jagged edges of the ancient volcano’s crater, is a sight that will leave you spellbound.
Our adventure doesn’t stop at the rim, though. We’ll embark on a thrilling descent towards the lake’s shore. This hike, though demanding, rewards you with intimate views of the crater lake and the surrounding panorama. Once we reach the lakeshore, you’ll be captivated by the stunning view of the crater walls towering above you.
After taking in the mesmerizing sights, we’ll pause for a moment while our knowledgeable guide briefly explains the fascinating history and geology of Quilotoa. Then, before we start our return journey, we’ll stop to savor a hearty lunch nearby. Here, you’ll enjoy traditional Andean cuisine, a culinary experience that perfectly complements the day’s physical exertions and visual spectacles.
Replete with unforgettable memories and a camera full of stunning pictures, we’ll commence our journey to the local hacienda, where you spend the night
