Along the 45-kilometer, or 28-mile, trail, you’ll walk along the same path as the ancient Incan kings had nearly 500 years ago, experiencing altitudes up to 4,200 meters, various landscapes, original cobbled trails, and staircases built by the Incas, as well as the infamous constructions of Runcuracay, Phuyupatamarca, Wiñayhuayna, and Machu Picchu itself, located in an impossibly high and difficult place atop the mountains.

DAY 1: ARRIVE IN CUSCO
Upon your arrival at Cusco International Airport, a Nature Horizons team member will be waiting to greet you. We will then transfer to your hotel accommodation in Cusco. The rest of the day is yours to relax and settle in. Upon arriving at your hotel, you will meet your guide, who will be with you for the remainder of your tour. Your guide will give you a briefing on your full tour itinerary. As always, your guide will be there to assist you at a moment’s notice if you would like to head out and explore .

DAY 2: CUSCO
Today you will explore Cusco, a city in the Peruvian Andes, which was once the capital of the Incan Empire, and is now known for its archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture. Plaza de Armas is the central square in the old city, with arcades, carved wooden balconies, and Incan ruins. This ancient city is absolutely breathtaking, and we will explore as much of it as we can today. Before the end of the day today, if you need anything extra for your trek that starts tomorrow, we will make sure we assist you in purchasing those items in Cusco.

DAY 3: CUSCO – PISCACUCHO (KM 82) – WAYLLABAMBA
We will start the adventure of a lifetime by picking you up from your hotel between 6:00 to 6:30 am to start the two-hour trip by car to Ollantaytambo, where we will have breakfast. Afterward, we will continue driving one more hour by the same vehicle to the trailhead at Km 82/Piscacucho. While we are driving to the beginning of the Inca Trail, you will have the chance to enjoy and to see plenty of corn and potato plantations in this beautiful valley. Once at the trailhead, we will get ready to pass the first checkpoint of the whole Inca Trail. After that, we will hike two hours to reach Mesccay, where we will take a break and have the chance to enjoy the local corn beer called Chicha. Then we will continue hiking to the viewpoint of Llactapata ruins to explore. We will hike for 30 more minutes to make it to the lunch spot to enjoy our delicious lunch. After lunch, we will hike for another three hours to the campsite located in Huayllapampa, where our crew of porters and cooks have already set up your camp. Time to enjoy hot tea and dinner at the camp. The camp is located at 3000 m.

DAY 4: HUAYLLABAMBA – INCA TRAIL HIGHEST POINT – PACAYMAYO
The cooks will wake you up with hot coffee or tea early in the morning to complete the most challenging day of the whole Inca Trail successfully. After a nutritious breakfast, we will get ready to start the trek up to the highest point of the entire Inca Trail, at 4,212m/13,818ft. Four hours of uphill hiking, 9km/5ml, awaits us. The trail begins at 3,000 m to 4,212 m through a beautiful path made of stones combining with nice Inca stairs, which takes you to the pass of the Inca Trail called WARMICWAÑUSCAN (Dead Woman’s Pass). If we get nice weather, we have the chance to enjoy the overlooking views of the mountains that surround Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After a while, at the pass, we will start descending to the lunch spot two hours downhill, hiking along the Inca steps. Soon we will reach Pacaymayo where we will have lunch. This is also our campsite. In the afternoon we will provide you with tea then dinner before going to sleep at 3,700 m.

DAY 5: PACAYMAYO – PHUYUPATAMARKA – WIÑAYWAYNA
Today will be the most beautiful day of the trek because you get the opportunity to see how the landscape changes from the Andean cloud forest to the jungle área. Hiking on beautiful well maintained original Inca trails and also, we are going to visit. Phuyupatamarca (the town in the clouds). In the distance, you enjoy the view of the majestic Salkantay mountain and Wakaywillka mountain and, of course, the first views of Machu Picchu montaña and Huaynapicchu mountain. After a delicious breakfast around 5:30 am, we leave from the camp toward Phuyupatamarca, 2 hours uphill hiking, then two more hours downhill on the Inca flat trail. Once in Puyupatamarca, you have time to enjoy the views, and also, we explore the beautiful archeological site of Puyupatamarca. After that, we will hike down the curved Inca stairs to Intipata. After two hours of the trek, we will reach Intipata to explore the farming terraces and enjoy the magnificent views of the Urubamba River and its valleys. Then we will go to the lunch spot at Wiñayhuayna campsite to eat a delicious lunch. After that, we will go explore the Wiñaywayna Inca ruins. Then we go back to the camp to enjoy tea time and the last supper made by the camping chefs.

DAY 6: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Today you will experience the magical Machu Picchu. Early in the morning, you will wake up with hot coca tea served to your tent by the chefs and then enjoy a delicious breakfast before going to the last Inca Trail checkpoint. Trekking to the sun gate through the amazing trails built on the cliffside of the steep Rocky Mountains covers dense vegetation. Once we make it to INTIPUNKU (the Door of the Sun), we will have time to enjoy the magnificent view of the Incan cathedral MACHU PICCHU.
Enjoy incredible views of a town made of stone built by ancient civilizations of the Peruvian Andes after we continue our trek to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu through the enclosures that used to function as access controls and ritual enclosures that the Incas used before arriving at Machu Picchu itself. Once at Machu Picchu, we will have time for the classic and panoramic pictures. Once in Machu Picchu, we will enter the ruins to have a guided tour. Afterward, the guide will let you go by yourselves to explore the vast Incan city such as the Inca Bridge, Huaynapicchu Mountain, or Machu Picchu montaña if you book it in advance. After 6–7 hours in Machu Picchu, we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes town, where we have time for lunch. Then you will take a train at 6:20 pm to Ollantaytambo Station where we will transfer you to Cusco. You will be back in Cusco around 10 pm.

DAY 7: CUSCO DEPARTURE
Today is the final day of your tour. Your guide will be with you up until we drop you off at the airport for your departure home.

WHAT TO PACK
- Passport
- Backpack to carry all your stuff and the sleeping bag. It should be a comfortable technical hiking backpack of 30 to 35 liters. If you have a bigger one works as well
- Sleeping bag at least minus 5 cº. If you do NOT have one, you can rent from us for 10 dollars for the whole trek. The sleeping bag weighs 1.5 kilos approx
- Trekking Poles – We recommend for people with problems with knees, ankle, or you used to use hiking poles. If you do NOT have one, you can rent a pair of trekking poles for 10 dollars from us.
- Wool hat or beanie
- Sun hat
- Scarf
- Gloves
- 2 – 3 t-shirts, if you have long sleeve better
- Two layers (sweater, fleece)
- Two pairs of long pants if you have leggings, you can do on leggings
- Hiking shoes

- A jacket Rain gear (Pants, jacket, if you do not have you can buy rain poncho) is crucial, especially for the wet season.
