Health

The health conditions in Peru are good, especially in the cities. Recently, the range of health services has increased and has become modernized. Hospitals and clinics provide great healthcare, but we still recommend taking out travel insurance for ease of mind.

Vaccinations

The Nature Horizons Team would like to inform you that there are no mandatory vaccination requirements when entering Peru. If you are thinking of visiting Peru’s Amazon region, the Ministry of Health recommends that you be vaccinated against yellow fever. 

Recommended Vaccinations 

  • Chickenpox

Recommended for: travelers who have not had chickenpox

Destinations for which it is recommended: all of Peru

 

  • Hepatitis A

Recommended for: all travelers

Destinations for which it is recommended: all of Peru

 

  • Hepatitis B

Recommended for: travelers who will have prolonged contact with the local population

Destinations for which it is recommended: Amazonas, Loreto, San Martín, Ucayali, Junín, and Madre de Dios

 

  • Yellow Fever*

Recommended for: travelers to jungle areas below 8,200 feet

Destinations for which it is recommended: Amazonas, Loreto, San Martín, Ucayali, Junín and Madre de Dios

 

*To be effective, the yellow fever vaccination must be given at least 10 days before traveling.

BOTSWANA

Vaccination Information.

When planning a trip to Botswana, check the vaccines and medicine list and visit your doctor at least one month prior to your trip in order to get any vaccines or medicine you may need.

Routine Vaccines

  • Chickenpox (Varicella)
  • Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis
  • Flu (influenza)
  • Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)
  • Polio
  • Shingles

COVID 19

Everyone who is 16 years of age and older should get fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before travel.

Hepatitis A

  • Recommended for unvaccinated travelers one-year-old or older when traveling to Botswana.
  • Infants 6 to 11 months old should also be vaccinated against Hepatitis A. The dose does not count toward the routine two-dose series.
  • Travelers allergic to a vaccine component or who are younger than 6 months should receive a single dose of immune globulin, which provides effective protection for up to two months depending on dosage.
  • Unvaccinated travelers who are over 40 years old, immunocompromised, or have chronic medical conditions planning to depart to a high-risk area in less than two weeks should get the initial dose of vaccine and at the same appointment receive immune globulin.
