The route first leads to Gallipoli, a site of deep historical significance from the First World War, before continuing to Troy, whose legends have influenced literature and imagination for centuries. From the coastal charm of Ayvalık and the historic town of Bergama, the journey continues to Selçuk, gateway to the magnificent ruins of Ephesus.
Further south, the extraordinary white terraces of Pamukkale and the ancient spa city of Hierapolis reveal another side of Anatolia’s long story. The journey concludes back in Istanbul, where an orientation walk reconnects travelers with one of the world’s most dynamic crossroads of culture, history, and daily life.

Arrive in Istanbul at any time and settle into your hotel. There are no planned activities until the evening welcome meeting, where you will meet your guide and fellow travelers and review the journey ahead. Afterward, you may choose to join the group for dinner and begin discovering Istanbul’s vibrant culinary culture.

Depart Istanbul in the morning and travel toward the Gallipoli Peninsula. A guided visit introduces the historic battlefields of Gallipoli, including ANZAC Cove, Lone Pine, and the surrounding war cemeteries. The visit offers a deeper understanding of one of the First World War’s most defining campaigns, a site that remains profoundly meaningful for Turkey, Australia, and New Zealand. Continue across the Dardanelles to the harbor town of Çanakkale, where the evening is free to explore the waterfront and lively student atmosphere.

Continue south to Ayvalık, a charming coastal town known for its Ottoman architecture, cobblestone streets, and harbor views. Here, visit the çöp(m)adam women’s handicraft cooperative, a social enterprise that transforms recycled materials into handcrafted products while supporting economic opportunities for local women. Later, continue inland to Bergama for the evening.

Travel from Bergama to Selçuk, the base for exploring one of the Mediterranean’s most remarkable archaeological sites. A guided visit to Ephesus reveals the scale and sophistication of Roman urban life. Walk along Harbour Street, stand before the grand theatre, and admire the reconstructed façade of the Library of Celsus, once home to thousands of scrolls and scholars. After the visit, enjoy free time in Selçuk to explore the town or relax.

Today is intentionally flexible, allowing travelers to explore Selçuk and its surroundings at their own pace. Options include visiting St. John’s Basilica, the Isa Bey Mosque, or taking a short local bus to the picturesque hillside village of Şirince, known for its traditional houses, artisan shops, and local wines. For those seeking coastal scenery, nearby Pamucak Beach also offers a relaxing escape.

Travel inland to Pamukkale, one of Turkey’s most visually striking natural landscapes. PAMUKKALE TO ISTANBUL: FLIGHT & CITY ORIENTATION WALK

Transfer to the airport for a short flight back to Istanbul. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided orientation walk through the historic center, passing iconic landmarks such as Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Blue Mosque. The afternoon is free to explore further. You may choose to wander through the Grand Bazaar, visit the Spice Bazaar, or return to one of the city’s monumental sites for a deeper visit.
