Beginning in Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital, the journey crosses into southwestern Uganda and the mist-covered forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that shelters nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The park’s dense jungle and mountainous terrain create a habitat that has protected these remarkable primates for generations.

Accompanied by experienced trackers and local guides, guests trek through the forest to locate a gorilla family, spending a privileged hour observing them in their natural environment. The journey begins in Kigali with a morning meeting with your driver-guide at your hotel. After a brief welcome briefing outlining the itinerary and logistics of the coming days, depart Kigali and travel through Rwanda’s lush countryside toward the Ugandan border. Cross into Uganda and continue toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of Africa’s most biologically diverse rainforests. The drive reveals rolling hills, terraced farmland and mountain landscapes that gradually transition into dense forest. Upon arrival at your lodge near the park, the remainder of the afternoon is free to relax and prepare for the following day’s gorilla trek.

Today is dedicated to the extraordinary experience of trekking to observe mountain gorillas in the wild. After breakfast, travel a short distance to the park headquarters where you meet experienced rangers and receive a briefing on trekking procedures and conservation guidelines. The trek begins from the location where the gorillas were last observed the previous day, with guides tracking their movements through the forest. The duration and difficulty of the trek varies depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once located, visitors are allowed to spend up to one hour observing these remarkable primates as they move through the forest, feed, groom and interact with one another. Mountain gorillas share approximately 98 percent of human DNA, and observing their behavior in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience. After returning from the trek, spend the remainder of the afternoon relaxing at the lodge.

KIGALI

BWINDI TO KIGALI · GENOCIDE MEMORIAL VISIT

KIGALI

After breakfast, depart Bwindi and travel back across the border into Rwanda. Continue to Kigali, where the journey concludes with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The memorial honors the victims of the 1994 genocide and serves as an important educational and commemorative center. The visit provides meaningful insight into Rwanda’s history and the country’s path toward reconciliation. After the visit, the journey concludes upon arrival at your hotel in Kigali.
