From Cairo, travel overnight to Luxor and step into the heart of ancient Thebes, exploring Karnak Temple and the West Bank’s defining sites, including the Valley of the Kings and the temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Then, settle into a four-night Nile cruise, watching landscapes shift from temple towns to palm-lined riverbanks as day turns to dusk from the sundeck. The journey continues south to Aswan with a visit to Kom Ombo and time for optional exploration, including Abu Simbel for those who wish to go further.
Return to Cairo for the city’s atmospheric Islamic quarter and the storied Khan al-Khalili bazaar, then close the experience with a home-cooked dinner and candid conversation with a local family, a final perspective that brings modern Egypt into focus.

Day 01

Arrive in Cairo and enjoy a complimentary transfer to your hotel. This evening, gather for an important welcome meeting. If time allows earlier in the day, you may choose to explore independently, from the city’s historic citadel to its layered neighborhoods and street life.

After breakfast, visit two of the world’s most iconic landmarks: the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. Learn the context and legacy of these monumental structures, with the option to enter the Great Pyramid when open. Continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to one of the world’s great collections of ancient artifacts. Later, return to the hotel to refresh before boarding the overnight sleeper train to Luxor.

Arrive in Luxor early and begin the day with a guided visit to Karnak Temple, a vast ceremonial complex built and expanded over centuries. This afternoon, you may opt to join a walking tour through Luxor and its bazaar with your leader.

Travel by private minivan to the West Bank and explore the defining sites of ancient Thebes. Enjoy time this morning to explore Aswan at your own rhythm. Your leader can advise on optional experiences, including city markets, major landmarks, and museum visits. For those who choose, Abu Simbel offers a powerful extension of the journey, with the colossal statues of Ramses II carved directly into the mountainside. Late afternoon, take to the Nile on a traditional felucca sail, a calm, elemental way to experience the river before returning to the ship for dinner.

DEPARTURE FROM CAIRO

Fly back to Cairo in the morning. The journey ends upon arrival at Cairo International Airport. Please do not schedule onward flights before 14:00, as delays can occur. Optional extension activity available today: Memphis and Sakkara excursion (timing considerations apply).
