As more people get vaccinated and it becomes safe to travel again, how about a trip to Nepal’s stunning mountains? We’ve compiled a list of Nepal’s four most popular trekking routes, all of which you should visit at least once in your life.
Everest Base Camp Trek-
The Everest Base Camp trek is on the bucket list of all adventurers. It is considered to be one of the best trekking routes in the world for would-be mountaineers.
The experience of being able to see the world’s tallest mountain is truly unforgettable. It’s impossible to put into words; you must experience it for yourself. EBC is categorized as moderate because it is one of Nepal’s most popular hiking routes. You must be physically healthy and willing to walk for at least seven hours every day. There are numerous teahouses and resting sites along the trail, giving you plenty of opportunities to catch your breath and gently progress to the next destination. The path passes through some of the most stunning Himalayan vistas, including the daunting Khumbu Glacier. The fact that the EBC route is located within the Sagarmatha National Park, which is home to some of the world’s most unique animals and bird species, including the elusive snow leopard, is one of its most appealing aspects.
Mountains along the EBC route- You can see 4 of the 6 highest peaks in the world: Mt Everest (8.848 m), Mt Lhotse (8.516 m), and Mt Makalu (8.485 m), and Mt Cho Oyu (8.201 m).
Gokyo Lake Trek-
This is one of the best trekking routes in the Everest region for trekkers who want to experience the Himalayas at a lower altitude. The Gokyo Lake trek not only offers stunning views of the Himalayan range but also a memorable view of one of the highest freshwater lakes. At roughly 5,000 meters, they form the world’s highest freshwater lake system. Gokyo has six glacially fed turquoise lakes. Even if you spend a few days at a lower altitude, the route is unforgettable as you hike along the Ngozumpa Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the world. Gokyo trek is also perfect for adventurers who don’t like crowds. One of the best highlights of this trekking route is the Renjo La Pass (5,340m) and not to forget the “Scoundrel viewpoint” overlooking the stunning Ngozumpa Glacier.
Annapurna Base Camp
Aside from the Everest Base Camp Trek, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a popular but shorter hiking route. With so many tea houses and lodges along the way, it’s considered a moderate path. You must commit to an 8-hour rigorous hike, similar to Everest. The Machhapuchhre Base Camp (Mt. Fishtail), one of the most revered summits in the Himalayas, is one of the highlights of this trip. The stay at the base camp, with its breathtaking views of the Annapurna range, is equally memorable.
Mountains along the ABC route- Annapurna Massif (Annapurna I-IV), Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Pisang Peak, and Paungda Danda.
Langtang Valley Trek:
This is the best trek route for novice hikers who want to start at a lower altitude and are short on time. The Langtang Valley hike encompasses all of the best aspects of Himalayan hiking. It takes you through stunning scenery and equally enthralling culture. This is the most accessible trekking path from Kathmandu Valley, with unobstructed views of lofty snow-capped peaks. The towering peak of Langtang Lirung (7246m), located north of Kathmandu on the Tibetan border, dominates the skyline.
Mountains along the Langtang Valley trek:
Langtang Lirung (7227m), Kyanjin Ri (4350m), Tserko Ri (4984m), Ganja La Pass (5160m), Yala peak (5500m), and many more mountains can be found along the Langtang Valley Trek.
